Attorneys

Comfortable, casual, but always buttoned up.

Most often you’ll find us tie-less, sleeves rolled up to the work at hand. We like to be comfortable and that makes our clients comfortable. But when circumstances require, we button up into defense, completely prepared, in a business where preparation is everything.

Robert A. Gust

Business lawyers generally handle either litigation or transactions. Bob does both, and believes that the dual perspective benefits his clients. For example, he began his career focused on complex litigation involving acquisitions and other business transactions that ended badly. He now uses that experience to counsel clients who are contemplating such transactions. Similarly, his work on transactions enhances his ability to understand and explain the business and financial issues that arise in litigation. Ultimately, people look to lawyers to either minimize risks or to resolve problems. Bob serves clients in both capacities.

Bob’s practice has covered a wide variety of legal issues. His litigation experience includes contracts, insurance, intellectual property, employment, professional malpractice, franchise and distribution, unfair competition, construction, banking, bankruptcy, securities fraud, international and multinational disputes, antitrust, and will contests. His transactional experience includes representing buyers and sellers in acquisitions, acting as outside general counsel to small businesses, negotiating employment agreements and separation agreements, reviewing franchise and other business opportunity contracts, and registering and protecting intellectual property.

Bob has had a colorful career, and some of his unusual experiences led to a writing hobby. His first novel, Liars Dice, is a fictional legal thriller inspired by an actual case and was an Independent Publishers Award Finalist. His second book, The Card Sharp, is a fictional story that is influenced by some actual events and characters.
